The students of the second level acting program continue to develop the skills and stage techniques presented in previous acting levels, building on the concepts of “close to self” and C.R.O.W. As they continue to refine these skills, they are introduced to more complex levels of in depth research, involving both historical and socio-economic significance and intent of the playwright. Second level acting provides the student with performance experience based in historical and cultural context as it effects and highlights the American story coming of age through the lens of theatre. Class and public performances reinforce the acting skills of stage movement, voice, and characterization, asking the actor to move beyond just self exploration of character, and bring in these outside elements to help highlight these unique human experiences. The students are also introduced to the elements and responsibilities of theatre history, Shakespeare as well as honing audition techniques.
